This program fusions two cultures that are very close but at the same time very different making them unique and impressive because of their holistic conception and also because amazing buildings. Visit the most important temples of both cultures in this route full of nature and history.
Departures to Oaxaca on Thursday, pax must be arriving to Mexico on Tuesday.
Day 01. (TUE) MEXICO
Arrival Transfer Welcome at the Mexico City’s “Benito Juarez” International airport; transfer to the hotel of your choice. Accommodation.
Day 02. (WED) MEXICO CITY
We will start our city tour visiting the cultural and historic Heritage downtown district where we will find the National Palace and its beautiful murals, painted by the great muralist Diego Rivera, the constitution square or “Zocalo”, the Main Aztec Temple and the Metropolitan Cathedral as well as some of the main avenues. Later, we will visit Chapultepec Park and one of the most important Residential areas of Mexico City, and the “Pink Zone”. Return to the hotel and rest of the day free.
DAY 03. (THU) MEXICO CITY / PUEBLA / OAXACA
Breakfast. At 08:00 hrs departure to the city of Puebla de los Ángeles, before our arrival we shall visit a church beautifully decorated by the hands of the natives of the place. Lunch. After our arrival at the city of Puebla, we shall visit the Rosary Chapel, the Cathedral, The Main Plaza and the Historical Center. Subsequently we shall depart towards the city of Oaxaca. Arrival and Overnight.
DAY 04. (FRI) OAXACA / MONTE ALBAN / MITLA / TULE
Breakfast. In the morning we shall visit Monte Albán, an archaeological zone built over a mountain, and we will find expressions of the Olmeca, Zapoteca and Mixteca cultures. Afterwards we shall visit Mitla, the “City of the death” which is an important place which shows its beautiful decoration based on symbolic gravures. We will admire the “Tule Tree”, perhaps the living being of the biggest size in the world. Return to Oaxaca, a beautiful colonial city, including its Cathedral, the magnificent church of Santo Domingo and the “Gold Museum”. Overnight.
DAY 05. (SAT) OAXACA / SUMIDERO CANYON / SAN CRISTOBAL
Breakfast on route. Departure at approximately 04:00 hours towards Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital city of the state of Chiapas. You will enjoy a most beautiful landscape, its orography and magnificent flowers. Arrival and transfer to the embarcadero of the Grijalva River to enjoy, travelling in a boat to arrive at Sumidero Canyon which is a geological marvel which height reaches 1000 Mt. in its highest point. Afterwards, transfer to San Cristobal de las Casas, going through Chiapa de Corzo. Overnight.
DAY 06. (SUN) SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS / INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES
Breakfast. Departure and transportation to an area known as “Los altos de Chiapas” to visit the indigenous communities named San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan, indigenous towns which keep their traditional way of life, their religious faith and their social organizations. Their churches, huts and clothing are most original and colourful. Afterwards, return to San Cristobal de las Casas. Free afternoon. We suggest a walking through the streets of this beautiful city and visit the market, Santo Domingo, the Cathedral and the museum of Jade which keep a copy of King Pakal’s tomb. Overnight.
DAY 07. (MON) SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS / AGUA AZUL / PALENQUE
Breakfast. Tour to the Agua Azul Waterfalls (Blue Water Waterfalls), its water seeming turquoise tones, its short waterfalls create wells which in turn are natural swimming pools where it is possible to be refreshed, surrounded by abundant vegetation and typical fauna of the place. If the weather is good enough, we will visit the Misol Ha Cascade. Afterwards, we will be heading towards Palenque. Dinner and Overnight.
DAY 08. (TUE) PALENQUE / VILLAHERMOSA / MEXICO CITY
Breakfast. Visit the archaeological area of Palenque, located at the jungle. One if the most important ones of the Mayan World. Both, due to the historical discoveries as for its beauty. Within the Pyramid of inscriptions there was found a Tomb of the Pakal King with an engraved inscription in it. Cross temple, Sun’s temple and the Palace. Lunch on your own. Transfer to Villahermosa city airport for flight to Mexico City.
Book flight departure after 5 PM. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight. Included flight ticket.
