TLACOLULA TRADITIONAL MARKET

We will rediscover our roots by visiting a cultural jewel, the Former Convent of San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya where a bellows organ built during the times of the viceroyalty in Mexico is jealously guarded. It is precisely there where a music event is organized once a year with concert masters who know how to play this beautiful instrument. The Ex-Convent was in charge of the Dominican Fathers for many years; Likewise, we will admire the municipal palace that is very close, notable for its large portico, its thick columns and the beautiful arches that adorn it. Our adventure also takes us to visit an imposing fortified Mexican archaeological area, called Yagul; settled on the slopes of the hill at the foot of the Tlacolula valley. This city was built on an artificial platform in a rocky massif, exploring it will surprise us.

Finally, we will visit a town established in the central valleys of the state of Oaxaca called Tlacolula de Matamoros, a community widely recognized for its traditional market and the beautiful architecture of its churches. The market in particular has its market day on Sunday of each week, for many this market is the most significant in the central valleys, as local merchants and merchants from neighboring communities converge there who still strongly maintain their traditions, some even speak the Zapotec, they practice barter, they make a delicious barbecue of boiled goat or lamb, they offer yema bread, tejate, vegetables and vegetables from the region. During our visit we will cool off with a delicious typical Oaxacan snow or we will enjoy the aroma of meats grilled over charcoal with their delicious handmade tortillas. To later return to our hotels.
