TLACOLULA TRADITIONAL MARKET TOUR

This tour is an opportunity to rediscover the roots of Oaxaca, exploring its history, culture, and traditions in emblematic places of the Central Valleys. We will immerse ourselves in the majesty of its colonial temples, where art and colonial architecture still resonate through the centuries, as in the Ex-Convent of San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya, home of a historic bellows organ that every year is the protagonist of concerts that attract musicians and visitors from all over the world. This convent, enriched by the legacy of the Dominican Fathers, is a reflection of the fusion of indigenous and Spanish influences that characterize the region. At each stop, we will visit communities that have preserved their traditional crafts, such as San Marcos Tlapazola, where the red clay handicraft is the legacy of generations of talented craftswomen. Here, we will have the opportunity to learn about the process of creating these unique pieces and, perhaps, take away a sample of this tradition, molded with mastery and respect for the land. In addition, we will experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Tlacolula de Matamoros market, one of the oldest in Oaxaca, where every Sunday a spectacle of color and flavor unfolds.

Traders from all over the region congregate to offer fresh produce and local specialties, such as goat barbecue and téjate, and keep alive ancestral practices such as bartering. In every stall of the market, you can breathe the authenticity of Oaxaca, reflected in the handcrafted products and the warmth of its inhabitants. At the end of the day, we will enjoy the typical gastronomy, with the aroma of charcoal-grilled meats and the refreshing taste of an Oaxacan snow. This tour invites us to live the essence of Oaxaca in every corner, among history, flavors, and a deep connection with its living traditions.
