ARTISANAL AND RURAL ROUTE NAOLINCO WITH SAN MIGUEL AGUASUELOS FROM VERACRUZ
We start by heading to the mountainous region in the central part of the city, a tour between towns and picturesque communities, agricultural fields, cattle ranchers, and green landscapes. Here, we will find the town of Jilotepec to explore its former Hacienda and chapel “De la Concepción” dating from the 16th century as well as the “Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción”. We will continue on the road that invites us to appreciate how its inhabitants offer the sale of their field products such as pumpkins, beans, corn, and seasonal fruit, among others. And so, delighting the eyes and the palate between mountains, meadows, and cloud forest, we will arrive at the congregation of San Miguel Aguasuelos, the village of potters. Here, each home keeps its history and artisanal wealth of this art and you won’t be able to leave without being taught to do your piece of clay.
After this, we will continue admiring the mud designs that are distinguished by their natural yellowish color and the color of their reddish decoration made by their artisan’s hands. Then, we will arrive at Naolinco de Victoria, a city with colonial architecture, and old mansions, a place that preserves its ancestral traditions and festivities. It is distinguished by its diverse craftsmanship such as leather bags, and boots. Each house is a small workshop where the whole family works, there are masks carved in wood, and catrinas (mainly in the festivities of all saints) and we cannot miss its exquisite gastronomy. We will give a walking tour through its cobbled streets to know the leather boots workshop, Botica La Purisima, Church of San Mateo Apostol, and viewpoint of the waterfall, and of course, there will be time for purchases of handicrafts.
