HIERVE EL AGUA & ZAPOTECA TOWN TOUR
The tour starts at Hierve el Agua, a sacred place for the ancient Zapotecs, where you can admire the impressive petrified waterfalls of 30 and 12 meters, formed by carbonated waters flowing from springs at the top of the rocks. In addition, the site is home to the remains of a 2,500-year-old irrigation system. You will have time to swim or hike in the natural pools and enjoy the scenery of the Sierra Madre del Sur. We will continue to visit the agave plantations, where you will learn about the production process of mezcal, a typical Oaxacan beverage. With more than 120 varieties of maguey in the region, mezcals are produced from wild agaves such as arroqueño, madrecuixe, tepextate and tobalá. You can visit a mezcal factory, taste different types of agaves, and enjoy a Oaxacan lunch. Finally, we will visit Teotitlán del Valle, known as the “Pueblo Indígena Zapoteca de Tapetes”. Here you will observe the elaboration of wool textile products, such as rugs and curtains, made on wooden looms and dyed with natural dyes. You will learn about the ancestral techniques used by the artisans and their traditional and contemporary designs.

Important:
For the Hierve el Agua tour, due to community rules, the guide or group coordinator will wait for you at the unit. At the site, there are community guides, whose service is optional. At the end of the visit, these guides charge for their services. It is important that this information is shared with the passengers beforehand, so that they are aware of it and avoid possible inconveniences or misunderstandings.
Note:
For tours that include round trip transportation from the hotel; the pick up schedule will be assigned according to the zone, in high season or for social reasons the pick up and drop off will be at meeting points (Confirm meeting points before confirming).
