MITLA AND MEZCAL ROUTE TOUR

Begin your tour by visiting the emblematic El Tule Tree, a majestic ahuehuete more than 2,000 years old, with a trunk of impressive diameter and a weight of approximately 630 tons. With a little imagination, you will be able to discover among its branches and bark the shapes of animals and figures that have been created over the years. Then, we will head to Teotitlán del Valle, the “Zapotec Indigenous Weavers’ Village,” where you will learn about the artisanal process of creating their famous rugs. Here, artisans use ancestral techniques and grana cochineal to bring to life original designs and replicas of works by great painters. The next destination is Mitla, known as the “City of the Dead”, an archaeological zone inhabited by the Zapotec people. Mitla stands out for its architecture and the impressive fretwork that decorates the walls of its buildings. You can also explore the artisan workshops in the main corridor in front of the church and taste the traditional “nieves” before leaving.
Finally, you will enjoy the Mezcal experience, where you will learn about the production process of this typical Oaxacan drink. You will be able to taste everything from aged mezcal to mezcal creams to end the tour with the traditional saying: “For everything bad, mezcal; and for everything good, mezcal”.
