HUATULCO DAY OF THE DEAD TOUR

The celebration of the Day of the Dead in Oaxaca is a deeply rooted tradition that seeks to invite the spirits of our ancestors to coexist with us in the earthly world. During this time, they are honored most attentive, as their visit is considered a special permission from the afterlife. No other place in Mexico celebrates this festival with such fervor as Oaxaca, where family ties are strengthened and the memory of loved ones is honored. This pre-Hispanic tradition allows for a spiritual connection between the living and the deceased, so relatives prepare high altars decorated with marigold flowers, pan de muerto, incense, sugar skulls, and, in some cases, music that the deceased enjoyed. The favorite foods and drinks of the deceased are also placed on these altars as a token of affection and remembrance.
After the ceremony, we will go to Santa Maria Huatulco and start with a walking tour of the city, visiting the streets, the church, the market, the plaza, and the municipal palace. Throughout, your guide will provide you with enriching information about local traditions and customs. Afterward, we will stop at a local home, where we will be welcomed with open arms and invited to enjoy typical Oaxacan food, such as traditional chocolate and tamales. With a good mood and atmosphere, we will go to the main cemetery of the community, where we will live a unique experience, witnessing the coexistence with the souls of the deceased who visit us on this special day.
