These tombs are made of cement and are usually decorated with brightly colored, floral motifs. Among their tombstones you can find a tower, a clock, a reproduction of the Temple of Kukulcan in Chichen Itza, a Mayan house, and some other constructions that eternally remember the interests of the deceased in life; we will go to a local home where we can observe and witness a traditional Yucatecan altar ready for Hanal Pixan, where the meaning of each element that goes on the table will be explained to us. Finally, we will enjoy a local tamalito accompanied by drinking chocolate. Return to the hotel.

DAY 3. (OCT 25, NOV 01 & 02) MÉRIDA PEANUT MARKET PIB ELABORATION AND TYPICAL SWEET + BAKERY IN TEKIT

Breakfast. We start with a visit to a symbolic market of the city where we will observe how the locals make purchases of the elements to be used for the preparation of the pib, while we talk with the merchants and artisans of the area, people proud of their roots and their land, we continue to Maní where in a local house and together with the Yucatecan cook, we will prepare our traditional Pib. It is a very special dish that is only made during the Day of the Dead, practically in every home in Yucatán. The traditional cooking method consists of making a hole in the ground in which stones and wood are placed at the bottom. These, when heated, cook the “pib” covered with oak leaves and earth. We let it cook for about 2 hours; we dig it out or take it out of the stone oven, depending on the occasion, to let it cool down and then enjoy a pib. While this happens we go to Doña Eli’s where we will prepare dessert and taste the typical sweets endemic to the region. At the end we return to Merida but not before stopping at an emblematic bakery in Tekit where, by that time our sense of smell will indicate that the bread has just been baked.
