EMPIRE ZAPOTECA

Start with the majesty of Monte Alban, an ancient Zapotec mountaintop city. This archaeological site with its pyramids, courtyards, and observatories offers a window into the past of the Zapotec civilization and breathtaking panoramic views. Continuing on to Arrazola, we enter the colorful world of “alebrijes,” fantastic figures carved from wood and painted by hand. Local artisans have perfected this technique, creating vibrant and unique creatures that reflect the rich imagination of Mexican culture. In Coyotepec, black pottery takes center stage. Here, potters shape their creations using ancient techniques to produce unique and elegant pieces. Coyotepec’s black pottery is prized for its beauty and craftsmanship, demonstrating the skills passed down from generation to generation. A visit to Cuilapam de Guerrero takes us back to Mexico’s colonial history. The former convent of Cuilapam, built in the 16th century, has imposing architecture and a significant past. This place witnessed key events in the history of Mexico’s independence and offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the past.
