DOLORES HIDALGO MAGIC TOWN & ATOTONILCO SANCTUARY FROM SAN MIGUEL ALLENDE

The town of Dolores Hidalgo is famous for their ceramic tiles and handmade pottery. Dolores played a major role in the Independence of Mexico from Spain. The catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo proclaimed the beginning of the independence movement here on September 16, 1810. Our first stop will be the church of the Virgins Sorrows (Maria). Afterward you will hit the highlights of the city. You will make your way to a pottery works shop to see the process in action.
Atotonilco is known as the Mexican Sistine Chapel because of all the pictorial art contained in the interior of this beautiful Sanctuary. Its founder was Father Luis Felipe Neri de Alfaro who dedicated the greater part of his life to carrying out this evangelist work, putting in the hands of the artist Miguel Antonio Martínez de Pocasangre the creation of murals depicting the Life and Passion of Christ.
