For the Mexican people, there is no tradition more deeply rooted than the Day of the Dead Festival, Mexico is the only country that celebrates death. These altars are raised over the tombs and in them we can observe the very essence of our deceased, as they contain, among other things, photographs of our family member, so that he knows what his offering is and upon his return to the World of the Living, he’ll be able to approach to taste the delicious dishes that fascinated him in life, we are the ones who put his favorite foods, as well as objects that they used or that characterized them. Back to the hotel.

DAY 3. (SUN 01 NOV) MORELIA - JANITZIO ISLAND IN PATZCUARO - MORELIA

Breakfast. November 1st is a very important day throughout Mexico, but the most beautiful setting can be found on Janitzio Island. A Purépecha legend says that when souls die, they fly like monarch butterflies over an enchanted lake to Janitzio Island, and you only need to open your heart so that, when crossing by boat, you can see the souls drawn between the waters of Lake Pátzcuaro. The island is lit up with candles and altars for the dead. These altars are erected over the graves, and on them we can observe the very essence of our deceased loved ones, as they contain, among other things, photographs of our relatives so that they know which offering is theirs and, upon their return to the world of the living, they can come and taste the delicious dishes they loved in life. We are the ones who place their favorite foods on the altars, as well as objects they used or that characterized them. Return to the hotel.

We will visit the Dolores cemetery to see the mausoleum where, year after year, tribute is paid to the singer of “Deja que salga la Luna” (Let the Moon Come Out). We will continue our journey to Mexico City, arriving at the hotel for accommodation.

DAY 9. (SAT 07 NOV) DEPARTURE TRANSFER

Breakfast. Our adventure has come to an end and our ancestors have returned to the Kingdom of the Dead. It is time to let them rest and remember them, prepare the offering for next year, keep their photos, and miss them every day. They are happy, at peace, and do not want us to shed a tear of sadness. They have had to migrate, but at some point we will be with them and we will meet again. “Life is temporary, but families are eternal.” It is time to take our flight home and return with a smile on our faces.
