OAXACA DAY TRIP
Embark on an adventure that begins at dawn in Puerto Escondido and takes you into the vibrant heart of Oaxaca. The first stop is the central market of Benito Juarez, where you’ll enjoy a delicious traditional Oaxacan breakfast surrounded by the authentic aromas and flavors of the region. Next, you will walk through the charming cobblestone streets of the city, past the lush green quarry that will lead you to the Paseo Turistico, a scenery full of life. On this walk, you will admire the imposing Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzman, one of Oaxaca’s most prominent architectural icons, and explore the historic area where museums, galleries, and craft shops invite you to immerse yourself in the local culture. The tour continues to one of the region’s most amazing natural monuments: the majestic Tule Tree. This 650-tonne, 2,000-year-old giant will give you the perfect opportunity to take unforgettable photographs and discover its fascinating history, which makes it both a cultural and ecological symbol. Then visit San Martin Tilcajete, a picturesque village famous for its alebrijes, colorful carved wooden figures.
Under the guidance of a local artisan, you will be able to express your creativity by painting your alebrije and take home a unique piece and a special souvenir of the Oaxacan artistic tradition. To round off this exciting day, you will enter an authentic mezcal-producing village where you will take part in a unique tasting experience, sampling several varieties of this ancestral drink. You will learn about the complex process of making mezcal, from the agave fields to the distillery, where the secrets of this tradition are passed down from generation to generation. Finally, you will return to Puerto Escondido by road, your mind and heart full of the flavors, colors, and experiences that only Oaxaca can offer.
